A song for every mood: Openhouse is on Spotify!

There is a lot of research on how music affects the brain. Scientists have found that listening to music hones brain development and that in children, music can sharpen language skills. It takes a Google search to find that a certain type of music can actually help people focus better when they’re working or studying.

We didn’t know all this when we asked our students to send us a song (or five) they liked. We just knew that music had the power to connect people. And this year more than ever before, we wanted to be connected.

We were overwhelmed with the responses we received and put together the Openhouse TGIF playlist on Spotify with all the entries.

Openhouse TGIF playlist on Spotify

What kind of music people listen to can reveal a lot about who they are. And if the playlist is anything to go by, our student community is a diverse group which loves good music. Never mind that the song is older than they are. If it’s a good song, it’s on the playlist. (We were quite surprised to see a few songs by Frank Sinatra and Elton John!)

From indie music by Prateek Kuhad, When Chai Met Toast and Lifafa to pop music by Harry Styles and Shawn Mendes, there is a song for every mood.

We picked 10 songs to give you a glimpse of how exhaustive our TGIF playlist is:

  • Firefly by When Chai Met Toast

  • Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra

  • Young Shahrukh by Tesher

  • Kings & Queens by Ava Max

  • Kasoor by Prateek Kuhad

  • Brick by Brick by American Authors

  • Location by Khalid

  • La Di Da by Lennon Stella

  • Bad guy by Billie Eilish

  • I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas

Are you dancing already? We are!
